Volunteer car scheme
Leeds Alternative Travel operates a volunteer car scheme within the City of Leeds, for individuals and organised groups who cannot access public transport for a variety of reasons. The scheme is entirely dependant on a team of dedicated Volunteer drivers and passenger assistants. All volunteers are subject to an Enhanced CRB disclosure.
There are 3 levels of eligibility which fall into the following categories:
Fully Subsidised transport
For individuals referred to the scheme by an officer of the Leeds Social Services Department. This scheme will fund individuals transport within the city if they can demonstrate they meet criteria and all other statutory provisions have been explored. This scheme is usually short term. Examples include provision of transport to Social Services Funded Nurseries, day centres, residential homes; provision of home to school transport to Primary schools; visiting relatives in hospital.
Subsidised Transport
For individuals who are in receipt of a Mobility allowance, and can demonstrate they are unable to access public transport and have a need to make essential journeys.
Fee paying transport
For individuals who cannot access public transport and do not have access to their own vehicles. This is a membership based scheme, and applicants must demonstrate a level of Social Isolation or a disability.
