Dai Powell, Chief Executive of leading transport social enterprise HCT Group, has been appointed to become Chair of the Disabled Persons Transport Advisory Committee (DPTAC).  Dai’s appointment represents the first time that someone from a social enterprise or a transport operator has been chosen as Chair of this influential body.

DPTAC provides guidance and advice to Government on the impact of transport legislation, regulation and policy on access for disabled people.  It aims to ensure that disabled people have the same access to public transport as everyone else by 2020. Dai is already closely involved in DPTAC and has served for three years as the Chair of their Bus, Coach and Community Transport working group.

Speaking of his appointment, Dai said: “It is a great honour to be selected as Chair of DPTAC.  In this role, I aim to combine my practical experience as a transport operator with my passion for social justice as a social entrepreneur. I know that what the transport industry as a whole can achieve for disabled access is so much more than we are delivering now.”

Dai’s appointment recognises over 15 years’ service championing access to transport for disabled people, ensuring that his organisation, HCT Group, has pioneered accessible approaches to transport.

Dai takes up his role with DPTAC from 1 September 2009 and will serve for three years.
