HCT Group driver honoured at prestigious London Bus Awards
HCT Group is delighted to announce that Jane King, a driver on route 385 based at Ash Grove in Hackney, has won the award for Outstanding Customer Care at the London Bus Awards 2012.
The Outstanding Customer Care award recognises those who ensure that their passengers’ safety, accessibility requirements and communications needs are put first at all times, and who excel at making customers feel valued. Many regular passengers on route 385 are older people and those with mobility difficulties, so Jane knows that driving carefully, considerately, and always having a friendly smile for her passengers is of paramount importance.
Jane, from Hackney herself, has been driving on route 385 for five years and has built a real community spirit around the service. Recognised by colleagues and customers alike, six out of seven participants in a recent weekday passenger focus group complimented Jane on her cheerfulness and safe driving.
Jane explains: “It doesn’t cost anything to smile – or to talk to and be friendly to people. By going the extra mile and making people feel a little bit special, you can turn a bus route into a real part of the community. Many of the passengers on my route are older people, so by taking extra care the service can be a real lifeline to help people get out of the house.”

Jane received her award from Leon Daniels, Managing Director of Surface Transport at TfL, in a glittering reception held at the London Transport Museum in Covent Garden last week. Speaking at the awards, he said:
“Our bus network is one of the largest and most complex in the world and one on which the very foundations of this city depends. We celebrate and thank all those drivers and staff who go above and beyond the call of duty to help our customers, those who show innovation and creativity in their work, and those who display outstanding bravery, dedication and commitment.”
